HALLOWEEN SCARECROW, PROTECTOR OF OUR HEALTHY GREEN FOOD

Taking advantage of the current dates and the fact that kids love Halloween and scary adventures, we decided to prepare a different experience for our Science lesson. Thanks to Maykel and his amazing fancy dresses an orange Scarecrow paid a visit to our Y1 Science classroom.

Previously we had been working on which aliments come from plants and vegetables and which from animals. During this activity pupils by tables had to discuss if the photo they had been given should be attached to the Scarecrow as the guardian and protector of this food or not. The printed items were carrots, lettuce, milk, cheese and watermelon.

Kids are amazing ! Without giving any instruction or even mention to go insect hunting some kids have improved their natural talent to observe and interact with the environment. They were capable to capture two praying mantis and place them  in a bucket, where the others pupils could see them. Please note that after having a close look, mantis were safely released from the buckets.

As mentioned in previous post, now its mantis time many have been spotted in the school playground areas, in this new episode of insect hunting 3 praying mantis were seen.

...AND REPTILE HUNTING !

What a nice surprise we found at the playground today. We have seen a lizard (Dactyloidae) and we have been able to place it in an observation container. Afterwards Y2 had the chance to have a close look and identify its legs and long tail.

Earlier hid in the darkness of a tire someone noticed a strange move, it was a centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) . We had also had the chance to enjoy its movements during our science lesson.

COMPUTER SCIENCE - DRAWING INSECTS 19OCT15

Today we have been drawing insects through different computer programs (Kid Pix, and Paint). Kindly note that it is not easy at all to  just draw something through a mouse, you can imagine how hard it can become to draw an insect ! Have a look below, seems like we've got some artists in the class :-)
